Systemic and oral health status of older adult inpatients in an intensive care unit

Objective: To assess the systemic and oral health status of geriatric patients hospitalized in an intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study a convenience sample 78 older ICU inpatients. single calibrated examiner collected demographic clinical data by analyzing patients’ records assessing their cavities. Descriptive analysis was performed to 5.00% significance level. All provided informed consent were conscious during assessment. Results: The mean age 77.69 years 51.28% male. main reasons admitted investigated postoperative conditions (23.08%) cardiac abnormalities (20.51%). Systemic arterial hypertension (69.23%) most prevalent comorbidity being treated with anticoagulants (57.69%) antimicrobials (53.85%). Most did not receive (64.10%), while 29.49% them received it only once, 57.69% denture users. decayed, missing, filled teeth index 23.74 (17.44 missing teeth, on average) majorities had tongue biofilm (71.79%) unsatisfactory hygiene time hospital (84.62%). Conclusion: characterized poor edentulism.
